Christmas Cup Football Tournament
In this blog, I will talk about the football tournament Club Doncaster Sports College host every year before the Christmas break.
What The Tournament Is
Every year the college hosts a football tournament where each tutor has a group of students and compete against each other to win The Christmas Cup.
This is a chance for students to work with a new group of people, develop their football skills, and even feel more passionate about the sport. This is an event just to have some fun and close off before going into the new year.
Christmas Cup was an experience where we came together as a team for a bit of fun and friendly competition.
What The Purpose Of This Tournament Is
The purpose of this tournament is pretty simple in terms of why they host it;
This is an opportunity for students from different groups and years to take part and work together. But another reason why they host it is just to have some fun before breaking up before Christmas.
College Marketing Approach for the Event
How the college organised, this was great. They announced teams over social media, which was great marketing for the college as a whole. This did bring a lot of attention to the college as all students and staff shared this on their social platforms to make more awareness about the event and what type of things the college does, so this did help the college bring in new students for the next academic year.
When picking the team, they chose all students who wanted to participate and put their names into a bowl, and each manager would randomly select.
My Team & Journey
This year my team was managed by the first team football coach Steve who developed our squad. Which were mixed abilities and got us to work together, which actually ended up pretty well.
After playing the first group stage, my group moved on to the second group stage. Steve realised that we had to switch up the team from the first 2 games to get past the third game and into the semi-finals.
After finally succeeding and getting into the semi-finals, we decided to play tactical and just play off a good defence. We got into the final.
In the final, we played against Craig’s team, who we actually played our first game against and won. Steve decided that he wanted to win and really, all we had to do is mirror our first game against them, and we won 1-0.
After winning the Christmas Cup, we had a small award ceremony with food and just a short celebration. It was not only for the winners of the Christmas Cup but also for the couple of months that we had already at college.
Club Doncaster Sports College is unique in its own right regarding the benefits and opportunities they bring for students to progress onto further pathways for their careers. Still, the enjoyment they get to student experience throughout their studies at Club Doncaster Sports is second to none.
