COVID Worldwide Lockdown

In this blog, I will be talking to you about the COVID pandemic crisis and how this affects my college experience by putting us into a worldwide lockdown.

What Coronavirus Is

As we are all aware of how the world is in a battle with a virus called COVID-19. When COVID-19 spread worldwide from China, the UK and the world got put into lockdown.

What’s Happen

As the college had no choice but to start learning remotely from home, the college closed foreseeably on 19th March 2020. A couple of days later, on the 23rd March 2020, the whole UK was in a national lockdown.

UK’s National Lockdown

UK’s national lockdown resulted in completing college work at home and setting my work/assignments through google classroom.

This did not harm me as I had all the resources I needed to complete all work.

Unlike others, they did struggle.

Looking back on the national lockdown, I don’t feel like I could have applied myself any better to the college work.

I returned the assignment to a good standard and on time.

What A Physiotherapist Work Experience Through National Lockdown Looked Like

Looking at the lockdown period, I thought to myself, if I was fully qualified as a physiotherapist, how would this affect my line of work.

After speaking to a couple of local physiotherapists, a clinic telephone call consultation took place.

After the diagnostic, the physiotherapist provided each patient with exercises to see if the injury could be benefited.

What Happen With College Due To The Virus

As I mentioned earlier in this blog, the college had to close, and we went to remote learning. Remote learning was not an issue for me as I am compatible with computers and use google, doc, drive and other google tools. As I use this in my job, this was not an issue for me.

Remote Learning

Club Doncaster Sports College and every other educational faculty in the world got thrown in lockdown. My college personal handed it very well in terms of communication with all students and how they had to get all students on track with their assignments. This included zoom meetings, assignment deadlines, google hangout conversations and many more.

As I go to a sports college, a big part of my course is being physically active during the lockdown. This was difficult for students. Whether this was down to work commitments like mine or lack of motivation during this time.

The college decided to support students by hosting a 1 hour PT fitness session to keep fit and maintain our fitness levels.

College did many other things to keep us fit, as I mentioned in my blog before our U-Trek challenge to travel to the Utrecht Football Stadium. They also set up a run academy where we had to run 5k and beat our record time.

After college finished for the academic year, I decided to look at my career path option for a physiotherapist ahead of my second year.

Coming across 3 ways, I can achieve my goals either;

  • A university degree level course
  • A degree-level apprenticeship
  • Working towards the role of working as a physiotherapist assistant and studying part-time.

Club Doncaster Sports College is hoping to reopen its door at the start of the new academic year in September 2020.

The 6 months off of college will be interesting to see how my fellow students have used their time.

The Effect Of This

This had quite an effect on us, students. Still, this affected my goals massively as the economy during this pandemic just didn’t exist.

Throughout lockdown, this made me reconsider my career pathway. I did this because I did not want to go to university and carry out online zoom calls. When a good percentage of my course would have been work placements and practical workshops.

I finally decided to see if I could go down the degree-level apprenticeship route as this would give me theoretical knowledge and practical experience, which will already put me in a better position than university students as I will already have a job in the profession I desire.
