My Pathway To Achieve My Goals & Aspirations

In this blog, I will talk to you about the pathway I have chosen to achieve my goals and aspirations.

My Pathway

To achieve my career goal of becoming a sports physiotherapist, I will go down the career route of a degree-level apprenticeship after I have completed my BTEC level 3 qualification this summer [2021].

This pathway has specific requirements that I have to meet to get on the degree-level apprenticeship course.

I have to have 120 UCAS points and an employer to be able to apply for the course.

The degree-level apprenticeship is with Sheffield Hallam University. They will provide me with the qualification after 2 and a half years of study with them.

The physiotherapy degree-level apprenticeship at Sheffield Hallam release content and lectures by block release.

This means apprentice students do not need to come to the university every week for a week or two, like every 8 weeks.

This allows the apprentice’s workload to be a lot more flexible, gain experience, an apprenticeship wage and learning on the job. This is all while taking the qualification.

Employment

Approaching employers can be difficult as not many people know where to start.

Firstly I am narrowing down the top 3 types of physiotherapy places I would like to do my apprenticeship, which are;

  1. Sports Clubs, ideally football or rugby
  2. Private practices, like Chapman’s physiotherapy
  3. The NHS, in the physiotherapy department or discharge department in the hospital.

If I could choose any type of these for an employer, I would love to choose a sports club as I would like to be a sports physiotherapist. This would benefit me the most as I will be in the sports injuries, sports rehabilitation environment with professional athletes.

Approaching Potential Employers

To ensure that I have options for my apprenticeship, I want to put myself in the best possible situation.

My approach to potential employers is to provide them with a unique landing page saying;

  • Why I will be the best apprentice they will have
  • Stating my qualities
  • Achievements
  • History
  • Experience
  • And testimonials from my college tutors

There will be a video on this landing page where I just quickly introduce myself, so the employer gets to know the type of candidate I am.

Approaching employers with this method will give me a better chance at having an ensuing conversation with them regarding my apprenticeship.

This will show how willing I am to get an employer and how much I would love to succeed in this career. I am offering potential employers my desire for the opportunity.

To send the landing page out to potential employers, I will create a list of;

  • Sports clubs
  • Private practices
  • And physiotherapy departments within the NHS.

I would prefer my employer to be in a sports club as I would like to be a sports physiotherapist in private practice or working within the NHS.

This is because it will reduce the number of sports injuries, illnesses, and situations. I will not be in the right environment for the type of work I want to go in.
