Students who are at college or sixth form use UCAS to apply for university in their second year.
Students use UCAS because it is easy to keep track of their UCAS points, a requirement for a university course. All of your applications are in one place, which is easy to apply and manage.
UCAS points are the points that you gain after progressing through your qualification. For example, on my 2-year sport course in my first year, I got 72 UCAS points.
UCAS is also used for university life. So once you have your university place confirmed and have decided, students can use UCAS to apply for student loans and university accommodation.
UCAS is there to make the application and get ready for the university process easy and not stressful.
The benefit of UCAS is that you find it a lot easier to choose your course and university. They have all the information you need to apply for the courses before continuing and getting an interview with the university.
Also, UCAS will advise on what type of student loan to get, what accommodation is best for you in terms of quality of accommodation and the distance from the campus you are studying at.
